I think this is a stupid rule, but who am I to judge? After all, what person doesn’t realize that someone who is raving about a product or service is probably getting paid to rave.

Well, here’s a link to a great website that makes using the disclosures easy. They have copy-and-paste links to 6 different disclosures, based on the type of financial gain the reviewer received.

We celebrated my son’s 2nd birthday yesterday, and that made me think about how precious and quick life comes. There’s a national insurance company that likes to use the slogan, "Life comes at you fast." This partner this pithy slogan with screen shots of babies instantly becoming adults. Suddenly, the "wiser" parent gets shell-shocked by their newest adult child. the whole point of the ad campaign is to encourage us to examine our lives and determine what we need to do to meet certain, and quick, occurrences.

That’s one of the particular reasons why I like October so much. By October, nine months have passed, and we should be amply on our way to achieving this year’s goals. However, if you’re like me, you haven’t put yourself anywhere near achieving, and it’s likely been a struggle just to get started.

October gives us a chance to reevaluate our expectations and make adjustments to our year. You still have 3 months (I know that sounds funny, considering that October is the 10th month) to reenergize yourself and accomplish the goals you’ve set. Sure, there will always be those impossible goals you’ll never be able to do, but you can still finish some of the other, more simple ones.

What’s more, October gives me an opportunity to reflect on just how much I’ve accomplished. For instance, in October 2008, I began offering legal services in my newly-formed firm, Absolute Legal Services, LLC. In this year’s time, we’ve have added two new services, immigration and social security, as well as, helped many clients in our original practice areas of litigation, bankruptcy, credit/debt, and family law. The addition of the two new services helped accomplish one of the goals made last October, and hopefully we’ll be able to accomplish the remaining goals. Additionally, we hope to continue our mission of providing quality and competent legal services for a low cost.

Recently, an individual telephoned to discuss a possible lawsuit for wrongful termination. The individual explained that his employer fired him because of some comments made on his Facebook page. The individual felt angry because the comments were "harmless" and private. The individual questioned the legality of the firing. The individual asked me whether an employer could legally fire someone for comments on their Facebook page. Unfortunately for this newly unemployed individual, the simple answer is that an employer may fire someone for their online content.

The problem with social networking sites is their seemingly "private" nature. The privateness lures many people, and young people especially, into believing the information displayed will remain private, or at least protected from unwanted viewers. Quite simply, the answer is that the information, regardless of the private nature, is available to anyone.

There was a recent swirl in "blog-land" about a person interviewing with Cisco Systems who commented on his Twitter page about a recent job offer. The comments were in particular bad taste, and when Cisco discovered them, they promptly rescinded the lucrative job offer.

Your online presence is as important as your public persona. Employers can, and will, terminate your employment because of your comments. It’s important to remember that your comments could be a liability to your employer.

Here’s some tips for outstanding behavior online:

1. Never post comments that you wouldn’t want your mother reading (if your mom wouldn’t mind, then think of the most holy, innocent and pure individual you’ve met).
2. Pictures of tour late-night toga parties and binge drinking sessions are never good. Note: we like to use these in our lawsuits against people for car accidents and other events.
3. Keep comments about your last and current employers to yourself. Unless you’re prepared to start your own business, or you’ve already secured a new job with your boss’s arch enemy, it’s best to not tell the world how much you hate your job. As a rule of thumb, it’s better to build bridges than to burn them, you’ll never know when you need them again.
4. Never display too much private information, like your social security number, birthday, street address, etc. These details are a neon sign for identity theft.

It’s important to realize that you’re expendable as an employee, especially in this tight job market. If you’re successful in creating a liability for your employer, you’re going to find yourself writing many resumes and doing job interviews.

In this economy, job seekers are using any means necessary to find work and disseminate information about themselves. There’s an increasing number of people using the website, Craigslist to post their resumes, employment opportunities, or advertisments.

This post by an "ambitious" job hunter seems to say, "hey career counselor, I like your advice about good grammar, spelling, and highlighting my ambitions, I’m just not going to take it."

This is a shot in the dark:

I am an accountant. Well, not really. I’m an accounting clerk. I work for a printing company as the "Customer Accountant" which basically means I’m a hybrid accountant/customer service rep. I just graduated college with the most generic degree they had: General Studies (although I did minor in English). So, I’m not really marketable in accounting. My knack with accounting principles has actually sort of pigeon-holed me into accounting type jobs. I’m good with customers–really good, in fact. Speaking to angry or hysterical people doesn’t really phaze me much. But I digress.

I want to get out of accounting and into something that helps people. The greatest satisfaction I get from my job right now is that "Ah hah!" moment when I’ve helped a customer and they suddenly understand something they were struggling with. I have a knack for matching the dialect and syntax of other people, so I don’t come off as condescending, pedantic, or ignorant (most times). I’d like to put these skills to use in some way.

So, there it is; I’m intelligent, logical, and friendly. I have a proven track record of exemplary job performance and the yearly reviews/ recomendation letters to prove it. Only problem is: I’m in the wrong line of business. If anyone knows anyone who knows anyone who could use a guy like me, please have them contact me.

I LOVE IT!!!! Did you see the irony? I’m looking for a "Carreer" and the poster minored in English. It’s tragic that I don’t have this poster’s ambition, because if "I’m not really marketable" in my "carreer", I’d get out too. Did I mention that I didn’t really want a job because it’s a "shot in the dark" you’ll give me one anyway?

Just think how shocking a response would be to hear “I’m just living the dream” when asked about our difficult situations. In reality, it’s all true. We can think fondly or begrudgingly about our struggles, but it’s important to recall that we’re living our dreams.

I spoke with my wife regarding this issue. Her expression was to proclaim that “despite all of our struggles and difficulties, our lives are pretty awesome.” I couldn’t agree more! I love my family, job, and life. I’m doing what I dreamed of doing, and have my life in a place that I want. The key when I get frustrated or discouraged by life’s fierce fire-fights is that I chose these things and I dreamed of this life.

I’d encourage each of you, when the throngs of discouragement begin to prevail, to examine your lives and makes some evaluations. Remember, that you’re having these experiences because of choices previously wanted, and now, you’re living your dream.

I remember being a young 20-something trying to discover my "purpose" or "calling" and exploring all of the options that would fit my Meyer’s-Briggs Personality Profile. I remember how poorly my high school and college career services centers prepared me for the career search, and how even more disappointed I became when I realized that my dream of becoming a Hollywood cinematographer would probably never be achieved (especially in light of my poor scores in the "creative" and "analytical" portions of the MB test).

So, what does every good person without career prosepects do? He/she attends college to discover their purpose.

Well, this US N & R report takes some of the guesswork out of career planning. It seems to me that if your recent high school grad were to outline any of their goals or map some of their personality traits, they could find any number of specialities to become or consult some of these professions. I think with the resources available to any graduate, it’s going to be easy to find a niche.

You’ll notice too that some of the glamorous jobs (i.e. attorney) aren’t so glamorous.

My lawn sits in shambles right now. A by-product of summer heat and fall laziness. My neighbor on the other hand, had the forsight to plan a rye seed over his bermuda about October, and therefore has an enviable lawn. The only drawback, he’s mowing it every two weeks.

I think his option may be the better alternative, although for $150, this seems like a viable option. I always favor fescue though, so come spring, my lawn will be back in action. Anyone have any suggestions for plants to go in a front planter box that gets flooded and dug into by the squirrels?
